Gregg on June 11 for winning the Golden Mike ,an award Gregg won from Singing
News magazine.Langstaff likened the award to "a little Grammy,"and said it is the
first ever given by the national magazine to recognize the person who has most
benefitted Southern gospel radio.
The magazine polled record industry
officials,promoters and artists."We asked her to be out music director because we
thought she would be good,"Langstaff said "We had no idea how good."

Beginning with May's issue, Singing News will be presenting an award, that promises to create much anticipation among its potential recipients. Named the Golden Mike Award, this accolade will be presented monthly to a Gospel radio DJ.They will be featured in a story the month he or she receives the award.
Selection criteria included devotion to the promotion of Southern Gospel music through radio airways and over-all contributions to the profession.
The inaugural Golden Mike Award recipient is a most deserving one: Mary Lu Gregg of WAMV-AM Radio (Mountain Gospel Radio) in Amherst, Virginia.
"I’m am deeply honored by it,” Mary Lu said of her Golden Mic Award "I appreciate those who listen to me on the radio and to the radio promoters.singer,singing groups and all others who are an integral part of my job, But I think GOF first and foremost for allowing Southern Gospel music to be a major part of my life."
She began her Southern Gospel Music program on WAMV. In 2003 she was offered (and quickly accepted) the position of Music Director at WAMV, with an emphasis on the Southern Gospel music format. mary Lu developed a popular program she named "Artist Profile and Song." in which she features a Gospel artist for thirty minutes of airplay of Friday and Sunday each week.
Station manager Robert Langstaff offered the following comments about his honored employee, " Mary Lu relates in a friendly manner with everyone - listeners. pastors, advertisers and those who work directly in the Southern Gospel music business. She is really dedicated, spending hours at home and the studio working on our music. When WAMV receives Southern Gospel song ,Mary Lu will listen to it, paying attention not only to it sound, but particularly its message."
Besides her duties at WAMV, Mary Lu is also involved with various civic and charitable affairs in the Amherst area. She is a member of the Amherst Lions Club, the Lynchburg Chapter 196 Vietnam Veterans of America and volunteers her with Pal Talk.
Mary Lu Gregg is another example of the positive thing Southern Gospel music is said to foster. She has made various contributions to the business-intime,attendance at concerts and her tireless promotion of many singers, musicians and singing groups through radio airwaves.
